एगो जंगल में बड़का गो पोखरा हल । पोखरवे के किनारे एगो झोड़ार में एगो बड़का गो साँप रह हले। ऊ जब पलखत पावे, तो बेंग के पकड़ लेवे आउ खा जाय। ई तरह ऊ ढेर दिना से अप्पन जिनगी बिता रहल हल। ओकरा जब बुढ़ारी आ गेल आउ तेजी से ओकर घूमना-फिरना बंद हो गेल, तो ऊ बड़ा फेरा में पड़ल। ऊ सोचलक कि अब कइसे दिन कटत? चले-फिरे के हूवा तो हे न, आउ बइठले-बइठले खाय ला कइसे जुमत! बाकि ऊ सँपवा हल बड़ी चलाँक। से एक दिन कइसहूँ गते-गते ससरइत-ससरइत पोखरा किनारे गेल आउ चुपचाप मन मारले बइठल हल। ओकरा पर कीड़ा-पिल्लू चढ़ रहल हल बाकि ऊ सुगबुगायतो न हल। खाली टुकुर-टुकुर देखइत हल।

ओकरा ई हाल देख के बेंगवन के राजा ओकरा से पूछलक ''आज तोर ई हाल काहे हो गेल हे?'’ सँपवा तो पहिले कुछ बोलवे न करे, आउ मरियल नियन चेहरा गिरवले जाय । बेंग राजा फिनो पूछलक कि हमर राज में कोई दुःखी उदास न रह सके। इहाँ पानी में सब कोई उछले-कूदे हे। सँपवा बेंगवा के ई बात सुन के भीतरे प्रसन्न होयल। कहलक कि नदी में नेहायत खानी हम एगो बाबा जी के लइका के गोड़ में काट लेली हल, से ऊ मर गेल हल, बाकि बाबा जी हमरा सराप दे देलन कि तू बेंग नियन एन्ने-ओन्ने उछिलल चलऽ हें, आउ अदमी के जान ले ले हें । से जो बेंगवा के जब तक सौ बरस तक सेवा न करवे तब तक तोर उद्धार न होतउ। से का करीं, हम तो उनकर सराप से डर के तोहनी के सेवा में इहाँ आ गेली हे। तोहनी जे कहबय से आज से करम! बेंग राजा कहलक कि ''तूं तो बूढ़ा हो गेलऽ हे। तोरा से काम तो जादे बनतवऽ नऽ! से हमनी के लइकवन के खेलावल करऽ!''

बेंग राजा के हुकुम हो गेला पर साँप बेगवन के बीच खुसी से रहे लगल । ओकरा कोई रोक-टोक नऽ हले। एक-दू दिन के बाद ओकरा चलना-फिरना बंद हो गेल। ओकर ई हालत देख के बेंग राजा पूछलक कि ''तोर हालत तो खराब होल जाइत हे!'' साँप कहलक कि - ''भूखे तो अतरी जरल जाइत हे। लगइत हे कि अब जल्दीए मर जायम!'' बेंग राजा कहलक कि ''तूं हमनी ही काम करबऽ, तो खाय ला कहाँ जयवऽ ?'’

साँप पूछलक कि ''इहाँ कउची खाईं? कुछो तो न मिलऽ हे!'' बेंग राजा कहलक कि '’न होय तो एकाध गो बेंघुचियन के खा लेल करिहंऽ!'' साँप अब तो मोका पाके छोट-छोट बेंगुची के खाय लगल । धीरे-धीरे ओकरा खिच्चा बेंग के बच्चा खाय से ताकत बढ़े लगल आउ ऊ तनी-मानी चले-फिरे लगल। कुछ दिन के बाद ऊ खूब मोटा हो गेल आउ तागत बढ़ गेला पर बेंगुची के बाद बड़कन बेंग पर भी अपन हाथ साफ करे लगल।

एक-एक करके ऊ पोखरा के सब बेंग खतम होवे लगल, तो बेंग राजा पूछलक कि ''तूं अइसे काहे कर हऽ?'’ तो साँप बोललक कि ''आज तोर बारी हउ'’ ई बात सुन के बेंग राजा उछिल के भागे ला चाहलक । ऊ जैसे ही उछले लगल कि साँप ओकरा दबोच के खा गेलक। बेंग गेल पेट में खिस्सा गेल खेत में!

In a forest, there was a large pond. By the edge of the pond, in a bush, lived a big snake. Whenever it could catch anything, it would grab a fish and eat it. This way, it had been living for many days. When it grew old and its ability to move around quickly diminished, it fell into a great dilemma. It thought, how would it pass the days now? There was no way to roam about, and how could it manage to eat while sitting still? But the snake was quite clever. So, one day, somehow, it slithered quietly to the edge of the pond and sat there quietly. Insects were crawling over it, but it didn’t stir at all. It just sat there staring.

Seeing its condition, the king of the fish asked it, "Why are you in such a state today?" The snake didn't say anything at first, and its face looked pale like it was weak. The fish king asked again, saying that nobody in his kingdom should remain sad. Everyone here jumps and swims around. Hearing this, the snake felt pleased inside. It replied, "I had bitten a child of a wise sage in the river, and he died. But the sage cursed me, saying that until you serve the fish like a fish jumps and swims around, and take human lives, you will not be redeemed. So what can I do? I came here out of fear of his curse to serve you. I will do whatever you say from today!" The fish king said, "You have gotten old now. You won't be of much use to us! So, entertain our young ones!"

Once the fish king gave the order, the snake happily stayed among the fish. Nobody stopped it. After a day or two, it stopped moving around. Seeing its state, the fish king asked, "Your condition seems to be worsening!" The snake replied, "I am starving, I feel like I might die soon!" The fish king said, "If you are going to work with us, where will you find food?"

The snake asked, "What can I eat here? There is nothing available!" The fish king replied, "If there is nothing else, just eat a few small fish!" The snake then took the opportunity to start eating the little fish. Gradually, its strength began to increase from eating them, and it started to move around a bit. After a few days, it grew very fat and its strength increased, but after the little fish, it also began to target the bigger fish.

As the snake started finishing off the fish in the pond one by one, the fish king asked, "Why are you doing this?" The snake replied, "Today it's your turn!" Hearing this, the fish king wanted to jump and flee. Just as he began to leap, the snake caught him and swallowed him whole. The fish king's body fell into the fields!
