In a village, there were two brothers named Sanchu and Panchu. Sanchu was older and Panchu was younger. Sanchu was hardworking in his studies and focused on his work from a young age. On the other hand, Panchu, being younger, was more of a player and did not pay much attention to his studies, which made him somewhat foolish; however, he was very dedicated to farming. As they grew older, Panchu began working in agriculture, while Sanchu took up a job outside. Whenever Sanchu went out to work, he would wear a dhoti, kurta, and cap, having his breakfast first. While Panchu was busy with farming, he had to struggle to make ends meet. Sanchu had plenty of clothes like dhoti, kurta, and gamchha. Seeing this, Panchu's wife became quite irritable, thinking that her husband toiled all day without being able to support her, while his older brother roamed around but still dressed and ate well. Panchu's wife urged him, saying, "Why don’t you do outside work? Is it your responsibility to do all the work?"

When Sanchu came home in the evening, Panchu narrated his plight concerning the farming work and said that he was going to work outside. Sanchu was astonished and tried to convince him otherwise. Their mother also told Panchu that outside work was not suitable for him, but Panchu did not listen. The next day, Panchu wore Sanchu's dhoti, kurta, and cap and went outside. However, he had no idea where to go. He sat under a tree. Meanwhile, a servant of the landlord came searching for a worker. Seeing Panchu, he caught him and took him away. No matter how much Panchu pleaded that he was not there for labor but to do outside work, the servant did not listen.

The servant gave Panchu a hefty bag full of money and said, "Take this to the owner's house!" By evening, Panchu reached the owner's house after carrying the bag all day. The next day, Sanchu told Panchu to bring some money and buy a good bull. Panchu went to the fair and roamed around all day, eventually buying a thin, scrawny bull. On the way home, he passed through a village of thugs. The thugs, seeing Panchu's bull, intended to con him. They said, "Is this bull or a calf? It runs away in the woods at the slightest provocation!" Hearing this, Panchu became anxious, worrying that his brother would be furious. Thinking this, he left the bull there and returned home empty-handed. Sanchu and their mother were very upset. Panchu regretted it a lot. The next day, he left home early in the morning.

While traveling, Panchu reached another village. There, he approached the landlord asking for work. The landlord said, "I will give you work, but under one condition: that if I get angry with you, you will give me one of your eyes, and if you get angry with me, I will take one of your eyes too. Many people have given their eyes and left. If you are willing to work under this condition, go ahead!" Panchu agreed to the terms and prepared to work. The landlord said, "Listen to the daily tasks: you have to plow three big plots of land, put up fencing around it, bring fodder for the horse and meat for me, gather firewood for cooking, and prepare dinner in the evening, that’s all!" Panchu got ready for this work.

The next day, Panchu took a bull to plow the fields. The fields were in such a bad condition that plowing even one plot was difficult till evening. Poor Panchu was exhausted and distressed. When the landlord's servant came with food, he said, "You have to eat without opening the bundle!" Panchu had no idea how to take out food without opening the bundle. He couldn't eat and sent the food back. When he returned home in the evening, the landlord asked if he had plowed the fields. Panchu replied, "No!" The landlord asked a series of questions all at once: "Did you get the fencing done? Did you bring fodder? Did you bring meat? Did you fetch firewood?" Hungry from a day's work, Panchu said, "How can one man do all this? Even your father couldn't do this much work!" The landlord asked, "Are you angry?" Panchu replied, "Why would I be happy?" "Then according to the condition, give me one of your eyes!" And Panchu was made to lose one eye. He became blind in one eye and was very sad. He then went back home. Seeing him, his family was astonished. Panchu then narrated everything and said he would work at home.

Sanchu said, "Didn’t I tell you that outside work is very heavy? Come, do the work at home, and I will go and take revenge on the thugs and the landlord for you!" Sanchu bought a scrawny horse. He took some money hidden among its dung and dried some dung to carry in a bag. He also took along a servant. Then he set up camp in the thugs' village. He told his servant, "You do your work." The servant began to take out the dung from the bag and started collecting the coins. The thugs were astonished to see coins emerging from the dung. Sanchu said, "My horse is producing money!" There’s a coin coming from every piece of dung! The thugs gathered together and wanted to buy the horse. At first, Sanchu was not ready to sell it. Finally, he agreed to trade the scrawny horse for a fine horse plus one thousand rupees. The thugs were also ready to take the deal. Sanchu took the one thousand rupees and a fine horse, mounted it, and escaped the village with his servant. When the horse defecated, the thugs grabbed the dung but found no coins in it. All the thugs ran to find Sanchu, but they couldn’t find him anywhere. In this way, Sanchu took revenge for Panchu’s humiliation at the hands of the thugs.

Then Sanchu went to take revenge on the landlord. There, he sought work and took up the same condition as before. Sanchu also had all of Panchu’s tasks to complete during the day. Sanchu took his bull to the fields and started to rest under a tree after plowing eight to ten lines through the entire field. The servant came with food and said that he should eat without opening the bundle. Sanchu tore a piece of bread from between the bundle and set aside one piece, eating the rest. The landlord's servant came along with a dog. When they were about to leave, Sanchu showed the bread that had remained, which caught the dog's interest. Then, Sanchu killed the dog, took the meat, and put up fencing at all four corners of the field. In the evening, he collected firewood for cooking and took the old bull from his field as well. When the landlord asked in the evening, Sanchu replied that he had completed all his tasks.

Then he cooked dinner and served it to the landlord. The landlord would usually feed his dog, but today it went missing. When he inquired, he learned that it had been with Sanchu. Sanchu said, "Did you think you were feeding it? It had no meat today." The next day, the landlord also inquired about Sanchu's work. When the landlord asked about the servant, Sanchu said, "What did you think we made dinner with?" The next servant was made anew. Sanchu took him to the fields to plow. The landlord followed behind. Sanchu worked on the fields and sat down after plowing. Seeing the poorly plowed fields, the landlord became very annoyed and asked, "Did you plow all this? Is this the fencing you put up?" Sanchu asked, "Are you angry?" The landlord's frustration grew. He said, "If I’m not angry, then why would I be happy?" Sanchu insisted, "According to the condition, you must pay me with one of your eyes!" And so, Sanchu took out one of the landlord's eyes. In this way, Sanchu took revenge for his brother and returned home. Both brothers then lived happily together.
