The story revolves around a poor king and queen who, after expressing their sorrows about not having children, seek the guidance of a sage. The sage predicts that a bird will arrive in nine months. When the queen gives birth, the king decides to conceal that the baby is actually a chick, claiming it is a girl. To protect her, they keep her in a cage until she turns twelve.

As time passes, the chick, who transforms into a girl at night, begins to take care of their home. One day, Parvati, witnessing the chick, convinces Shiva to turn her into a real girl. The transformation occurs, and when the in-laws return, they are delighted to see the chick in girl form. The family then lives happily together. The story emphasizes themes of transformation, love, and misunderstandings about identity.

Once there was a king. He was very poor. He had no children. He and his wife were both talking among themselves. Meanwhile, their relative came and asked what they were whispering about. They both replied that since they had no children, they were discussing their sorrows and joys.

Then their relative said that there was a great sage in my maternal home. He would tell you everything about your situation. You should go and ask him. After that, they both started arguing among themselves about who should go. The relative said, "Come on, I will also go." The three of them went together. As they were going, they reached the sage's cottage. They shared their situation with him. The sage said that a certain bird would arrive after nine months.

The three of them returned home. In the ninth month, the queen gave birth to a chick. The king instructed the attendants to tell everyone that a girl was born, not a chick.

When it was time for the queen to bathe, all the women from the village and homes came to see the girl. The king instructed that the girl should not be shown to anyone as she was born a chick. So, it was understood by everyone that the girl was born from a chick, so she was kept in a cage.

After six months, the king started thinking about marrying his daughter. The marriage arrangements were also made. When the marriage took place, the girl was not shown her face. The king said that the girl must be kept in a cage until she turned twelve. So, no one was allowed to see her. After that, the chick was sent away in the name of the girl in the cage. The mother-in-law saw that the cage was closed. When she inquired, she got the same news.

When a lot of days passed, the mother-in-law opened the cage. She found that it was a chick. The whole family was shocked. Out of anger, they left the chick behind and went abroad. Meanwhile, the chick saw that no one was home, so it tied itself in its nest and went to the pond. There, it started filling water and began to clean its home nicely, and it started living well.

When the villagers saw that there was a chick in that house, they thought that since it was just a chick, it kept the door closed. The chick transformed into a twelve-year-old girl every night in its house.

In this way, a few days passed. One day, while filling water at the pond in the form of a chick, Lord Shiva and Parvati were passing by. Seeing this, Parvati understood and felt compassion in her heart. She said to Shiva that he should make her a girl because she possesses all the qualities of a girl. Shiva, although annoyed, eventually agreed to Parvati's request and transformed the chick into a girl. From that day, the chick began to live in its home in the guise of a girl.

Many days later, her in-laws returned home from abroad and were very happy to see the chick in the form of a girl. The whole family started living well.
