The story is about a group of buffalo herders who encounter an old hag in the forest while searching for fire to cook a rat they caught. One by one, the friends go to the hag for fire, only to be swallowed whole by her. The last remaining friend, realizing what happened, cleverly retrieves his friends by slapping the hag, causing them to be released. एगो जंगल में एगो कुटनी बुढ़िया रहऽ हल। उहाँ पाँच छव गो गाय- भाईंस के चरवाहा ढोर चरावे जा हलन। एक रोज छवो साथी मिल के चूहा पकड़लन आउ ओकरा पका के खाय ला आग खोजे चललन।

ओहनी ऊ कुंटनी बुढ़िया भिरू धुआँ देखलन। ओकरा में से एगों कुटनी भिरू जा के आग माँगलक। तब कुटनी बुढ़िया कहलाक- नऽ हमरा हाथ हे, नऽ हमरा गोड़ हे, नऽ हमरा आँख हे, नऽ हमरा कान हे, से अपने ले ल5 बाबू । हम खाली तमाकुल पीये ला आग रखले रहऽ ही । अपने काढ़ के लेले बाबू । ऊ लइका आग काढ़े गेल । बस, कुटनी बुढ़िया उठल आउ ओकरा एके कउर में निगल गेल ।

इहाँ इयार सब सोचलन कि ऊ कहाँ रह गेल । तब दूसर इयार के आग ला भेजलन । कुटनी बुढ़िया उनकरो एके कउर में खा गेल । ओइसहीं ऊ बुढ़िया पाँच साथी के खा गेल।

छठा साथी बड़ी फेर में परल कि ओहनी सब कहाँ चल गेलन । ऊ कुटनी बुढ़िया भिरू गेल आउ जल्दी से आग माँगलक आउ बतौला पर आग काढ़े लगल । बुढ़िया जइसहीं खाय ला मुँह खोललक तइसहीं मुँह पर एक थप्पड़ मारलक तऽ ओकर एक साथी निकलल । ई तरी पाँच थप्पड़ में पाँचो साथी निकल गेलन । फिनो सभे मिलके मौज से रहे लगलन ।

In a forest, there lived an old hag. There were five or six buffalo herders who took their cattle to graze. One day, the six friends gathered to catch a rat, and then went to look for fire to cook it.

They saw smoke coming from the direction of the old hag. One of the young men went to her and asked for fire. The old hag replied, "I have neither hands, nor feet, nor eyes, nor ears; take it for yourself, dear. I only keep fire to smoke tobacco." The boy took the fire from her. As soon as he did, the old hag got up and swallowed him whole.

The others wondered where he had gone. Then they sent another young man for fire. The old hag swallowed him too. In this way, she devoured all five friends.

The sixth friend was left behind, wondering where they had all gone. He approached the old hag and quickly asked for fire and was shown how to take it. As soon as the hag opened her mouth to eat, he slapped her, causing one of his friends to pop out. Through five slaps, all five friends came out. After that, they all started having fun together.
