एक दफे दू गो दोस्त बाहर चललन, तो राह काटे ला एगो कथा सुरू कयलन। दूसरका दोस्त कहे लगल कि संसार में चार चीज सबसे बढ़ के हे। जल में गंगा, फल में आम, भोग में स्त्री-भोग आउ धन में लछमी । ई बतिआ एगो कपड़ा धोइत धोबिन सुनलक, तो एहनी पर बिगड़ल आउ रोवे लगल। रोवाई सुन के कई लोग जुट गेलन, आउ एहनी दूनो से पूछलन कि तोहनी का कह देलहीं कि ई रोवे लगलई। दूनो में से एगो कहलक कि हमनी कथा कहऽइत जाइत हली से सुन के ई गरिआवे लगल, आउ रोवे लगल। तइयो लोग ओहनी के पकड़ के राजा के पास ले गेलन।

धोबिनियाँ के भी बोलाहट भेल। ओकरा से पुछला पर धोबिनियाँ कहलक कि हमरा एहनी कुछो न कहलन हे, बाकि एहनी के गलत कथा पर हमरा दुख होल हे। ओही ला हम रोइली आउ खिसिआइली हे। राजा फिनो कहलन कि ''ओहनी के कथा में जे गलती हे से हमरा बतावऽ !'' तऽ धोबिनियाँ कहलक कि हमरा का इनाम मिलत? राजा जबाब के बदला में आधा राज-पाट देवे ला कहलन। धोबिनियाँ कहलक कि जल में इनरा के जल बड़ा, फल में पुत्र-फल बड़ा, भोग में अन्न-भोग बड़ा आउ धन में विद्या-धन बड़ा हे। राजा ई उत्तर सुन के खुस होयलन आउ धोबिनियाँ के आधा राज-पाट इनाम में दे देलन। राजा जान गेलन कि धोबिनियाँ बुधवान हे। ई राज-पाट भी बढ़िया से चला लेत। खिस्सा खतम - पैसा हजम !

Once, two friends went out and began to tell a story. One friend stated that there are four things that are the best in the world: in water, the Ganges; in fruits, the mango; in pleasures, the woman; and in wealth, Lakshmi. A washerwoman, who was washing clothes nearby, overheard this talk and became upset, starting to cry. Upon hearing her cries, many people gathered and asked the two friends what they had said that made her cry. One of them explained that they had been telling a story, and after hearing it, she became irritated and started to cry. Nevertheless, the crowd took them to the king.

The washerwomen were also summoned. When asked, they replied that the friends hadn’t said anything to her directly, but she felt sad about the wrong story they told. That’s why she cried and became upset. The king then asked, "Tell me what the mistake is in their story!" The washerwoman responded, "What reward will I receive for this?" In reply, the king promised to give her half of his kingdom. The washerwoman then said that in water, the Ganges is greater; in fruits, the mango is greater; in pleasures, food is greater; and in wealth, knowledge is greater. Upon hearing this answer, the king was pleased and granted her half of his kingdom as a reward. The king realized that the washerwoman was wise and would manage the kingdom well. The story ends here—money well earned!
