एगो राजा हलन । उनकर तीन गो लड़कन हलन। तीनों जब पढ़-लिख के तइयार भेलन, तब राजा तीनों के एक जगुन बइठा के पूछलन कि ''घर से घरनी चले हे, इया घरनी से घर चले हे?'’ तब बडका आउ मंझिला जबाब देलक कि ''घर से घरनी चले हे।'' छोटका कहलक कि ''घरनी से घर चले हे।'' तब राजा छोटका लइका के महल से निकाल देलन, आउ एगो खाली घर दे के कहलन कि ''एही में रह के बतावऽ कि कइसे खाली घरनी से घर चलऽ हे!''
तब छोटका लइका महल से निकल गेल, आउ ओही घर में रहे लगल। एक दिन रानी से कहलक कि ''अब हम जाइथीवऽ परदेस! हम बारह बरीस पर अबव। एतना दिन में तूं तीन चीज ठीक करिहँऽ। एक- तूं एगो मकान बनौले रहिहँऽ, दू- एक लड़का पैदा कर लींह, तीन- सादी कर के रखिहँऽ!'’ एतना कह के छोटका लइका परदेस चल गेल।
एन्ने रानी रोज लइकन से गंगारट मँगावथ। दू मन गंगारट मँगा के दू बक्सा में भर के रख देलन। एकरा बाद बेगार मँगा के मरदानी भेस में घरे से चललन। घर पर नोकर-चाकर रहे लगलन। रानी चल गेलन एगो मरवाड़ी के पास आउ उहँई रात के ठहर गेलन। मरवाड़ी के लड़का ऊ दूनो बक्सा के उठा के देखलक तब सोचलक कि एकरा में बड़ी रकम हे। एही से ऊ ओइसने दूसर बक्सा से बदल देलक। रानी सब चीज के देख रहलन हल। भोर होयल तऽ बेगार पर ऊ दूनो बक्सा के लाद के मारवाड़ी के इहाँ से घरे लौट अयलन। घरे आन के देखलन कि बक्सा में बड़ी मानी रकम हे।
पथेरा के हुकूम दे के ईंटा पराय लगल। लौंड़ी पर घर-दुआर छोड़ के जनानी ठाट-बाट में सफर करे निकललन। ऊ उहाँ चल गेलन जहाँ ओकर पति रहऽ हलथिन। ऊ सहर में एगो अहीरिन हीं ठहर गेलन आउ ओकरा से मौसी के नाता जोड़ लेलन। अहीरिनिया कहलक कि ''हम हम तोरा चीन्हइत न हिवऽ!'' तब ऊ कहलन कि ''जहिना तोरा गवना होलवऽ हल, तहिने हमर जनम होयल हल!'’
एकरा बाद ऊ ओकरे हीं रह के दही बेचे लगलन। दही बेचइत-बेचइत अपन मरद भिरु जाय लगलन। दही खिलौते-खिलौते ओकरा साथे परेम करे लगलन। ओइसहीं एक महीना तक कयलन आउ उनका 'गरभ' रह गेल। फिन रानी अप्पन घरे आवे ला सोचलन, आउ दही खाय ओला से कह देलन। राजा कहलन कि घरे जाइत खानी तूं जो माँगवऽ ओही देम। रानी कहलन कि (1) गला के मोहरमाला, (2) हाथ के अँगूठी आउ (3) एगो रूमाल दे दऽ! ई सब ले के छोटकी रानी अप्पन घरे चल अयलन।
एन्ने तब तक कझावा लग के तइयार हो गेल हल, आउ मकान बने लगल। मकान भी बन गेल। ओकरा बाद लड़का जनम लेलक। ऊ खूब बढ़े लगल। दू-चार बरस हो गेल। फिन मर-मकान, नोकर-चाकर पर छोड़ के मरदानी ठाट-बाट में एगो दोसर सहर में गेलन। उहाँ पर एगो राजा हले। ओकर नागिन अइसन सुन्नर लड़की हल। ओकरा से कोई सादी नऽ करऽ हल, तऽ ओकरा से ई सादी कर लेलन। कोहबर मिलल, कोहबर में दू खटिया बिछावल गेल। एगो पर लइका, आउ एगो पर लइकी सूतल। दीया बरइत हल। लड़की के मुँह से नागिन निकलल। भेस बदलले दूसर खटिया पर सूतल राजा हलन। नगिनिया के ऊ मार देलन। एकरा बाद दूनों रहे लगलन।
एक दिन लड़किया अप्पन भउजाई से कहलक कि हम्मर मरदाना हमरा से अलगे सूतऽ हथ आउ बोलथ नऽ। राजा सरहज से कहलन कि बिना घरे गेले आउ बाप-माय के गोड़ लगले नऽ बोल सकऽ ही। से ऊ रोसगद्दी करा के चललन। घरे पहुँच गेलन। इहाँ जनानी ठाट बदल लेलन। तब नयकी रानी बड़ी रोवे लगल। तब रानी समझवलन कि कुछ दिन के बाद राजा चल अयतन, घबड़ाय के जरूरत न5 हे। इहे तरह से बारह-बरस पूरे ला होयल। दू-चार दिन बाकि हल, तब रानी अप्पन बेटा से कहलक- '’तूं एगो घोड़ा पर चढ़ के जा, आउ रस्ता में जहाँ तोर बाबूजी मिलतथुन, उहाँ प्रणाम कर के लौट जइहँऽ!''
लइका घोड़ा पर चलल जाइत हल, आउ ओन्ने से ओकर बाप भी आ रहलन हल। दूनो रस्ता में भेंटलन। लइका घोड़ा से उतर के प्रणाम कयलक, आउ फिन घोड़ा के घरे दने लौटा देलक। राजा न चीन्हलन, आउ सोचइत आवइत हलन कि ऊ कउन हल! दूनो घरे आ गेलन। रानी थरिया में पानी ले के गोड़ धोवे लगलन। तब राजा खीसे हाथ में तेगा ले के तइयार हो गेलन, आउ पूछलन कि लइका काहे जनमवलऽ? खीस देख के रानी मोहरमाला, अँगूठी आउ रूमाल देखा देलन। राजा शान्त पड़ गेलन। फिन ऊ अप्पन बाबूजी से मिललन आउ पूछलन कि अब बतावऽ ''घरनी से घर चलऽ हे, कि घर से घरनी?'’ फिन सब लोग खुसी-खुसी रहे लगलन ।
Once upon a time, there was a king who had three daughters. When they were ready after their education, the king gathered them together and asked, "Do you go from the home to the wife, or does the wife come to the home?" The eldest and the middle daughter replied, "We go from the home to the wife." The youngest said, "The wife comes to the home." Then the king expelled the youngest girl from the palace and gave her an empty house, telling her, "You stay here and show how a home can run from an empty wife!"
The youngest girl left the palace and started living in that empty house. One day, she told the queen, "I will go to a foreign land now! I have been here for twelve years. In all this time, you will need to take care of three things: First, you will build a house; second, you will give birth to a child; and third, you will get married!" After saying this, the youngest girl went to the foreign land.
During her absence, the queen ordered two carts of ghee to be brought. They filled two boxes with ghee. After this, the queen dressed as a man and left the house. The servants remained in the house. The queen traveled to a Marwari's place and stayed there for the night. The Marwari's son lifted both boxes to have a look and thought that there must be a large sum of money. Therefore, he exchanged one box for his own. The queen was watching everything. When morning came, she loaded both boxes onto the cart and returned home from the Marwari's house. Upon reaching home, she found that the boxes contained a significant amount of money.
Meanwhile, the queen had given orders for bricks to be laid. Leaving the household, she traveled in style. She went to the place where her husband lived. There, she found a shepherd woman and befriended her. The shepherd woman said, "I don't recognize you!" The queen replied, "As you were departing to your new home, I was born!"
After that, she stayed there and began selling curd (yogurt). While selling curd, she became fond of her husband. This went on for about a month, and she became pregnant. Then the queen thought about returning home and asked the curd seller to inform her husband. The king said, "When you return home, ask for whatever you want, I will give it to you." The queen said, "Give me (1) a necklace for my neck, (2) a ring for my hand, and (3) a handkerchief!" After receiving these items, the youngest queen returned home.
By then, she was quite prepared and had built the house. The house was completed, and afterwards, she gave birth to a son. The boy grew well over the next few years. Then, leaving the house, servants, and everything behind, the queen dressed in style and went to another city. There was a king in that city, and he had a beautiful girl like a serpent (nagin). As no one was marrying her, he decided to marry her. They got together, and in the nuptial chamber, there were two beds laid out, one for the boy and one for the girl to sleep on. A lamp was burning. From the girl's mouth came the serpent. The king, disguised, slept on the other bed. He killed the serpent. After this, they both began living together.
One day, the girl told her sister-in-law that her husband sleeps away from her and doesn't speak. The king said easily, "Unless you go home and touch your parents' feet, you cannot speak." So she became upset and left. She returned home, and here the woman changed her appearance. The new queen began to cry deeply. The queen reassured her that the king would return in a few days, and there was no need to be anxious. Thus, twelve years passed. With just a few days remaining, the queen said to her son, "You ride a horse and go; when you see your father on the way, bow to him and return!"
The boy rode on a horse, and coincidentally, his father was also coming from the other side. They met on the way. The boy dismounted from the horse, bowed, and then returned home on the horse. The king did not recognize him and thought, "Who is this?" They both returned home. The queen brought a plate of water and began to wash her feet. Then the king became ready with a sword in hand and asked, "Why did this boy get born?" Seeing the sword, the queen showed the necklace, ring, and handkerchief. The king became peaceful. Then he met his father and asked, "Now tell me, does the home run from the wife, or does the wife come from the home?" After that, everyone lived happily.
