एक जंगल में एगो बुढ़िया रहऽ हल। ओकरा घोड़ा हल । अन्हार रात हल। बिजुरी चमकइत हल । उहाँ एगो चोर आउ एगो बाघ आयल । चोरवा चाहलक कि अबरी बिजुलिया चमके तो घोड़वा ले भागी। बघवा सोचइत हल कि अबरी बिजुलिया चमके तो घोड़वा के खा जाईं।

एही समै बुढ़िया बोलल कि डर चोरवा के, न डर बघवा के, भारी डर टिपटिपवा के । चोरवा सोचलक कि एकरा न बाधे से डर है, न हमरे से डर हे, तो टिपटिपवा कउन हे? बघवा भी सोचलक कि एकरा न हमरे से डर हे न चोरवे से ।

एतने में बिजुली चमकल तो बाघ मुँह फाड़ के घोड़ा के पकड़े चलल आउ चोर लगाम लेके घोड़ा के लगाम देवे चलल बाकि लगाम घोड़ा के न पर के बघवे के गरदन में पर गेल आउ चोरवा ओकरा पर चढ़ गेल । अब बाघ भागल । चोरवा भी समझे लगल कि हम टिपटिपवा के फेरा में पड़ गेली ।

बिहान होला पर चोर देखलक कि हम बाघ पर चढ़ल ही तो ऊ कूद गेल आउ एगो पेड़ के खोढर में समा गेल ।

बाघ तो भागले जाइत हल । एगो सिआर ई करमात देखइत हल, तो बाघ से कहलक कि हो बघवा मामू, तू कहाँ भागल जाइत हें ? ऊ अदमी हउ जे ऊ का खोढरवा में दुकलवऽ हे। बघवा कहलक कि ऊ अदमी न हउ, टिपटिपवा हउ ।

फिर बघवा सिअरवा के आगे करके चलल । सिअरवा कहलक कि तू अप्पन पोंछी खोढरवा में समावऽ तो बघवा सिअरवा के समावे कहलक । अंत में सिअरवा पोछी समउलक तो चोरवा पोछी ऐंठ के पकड़ लेलक आउ ऊपरे तीरे लगल । पोंछी के दरद से सिआर दाँत निपोरे लगल तो बघवा पूछलक कि खेचले अवइत हैं ? सिअरवा कहलक कि हाँ मामू ! एतने में पोंछी कुबर गेल तो सिअरवा जान लेके भागल । तो बघवा भी टिपटिपवा जान के भाग चलल । चोरवा भी निकल के चल गेल ।

बन्डा सिआर जंगल के एगो टिल्हा पर जा के रहे लगल । अभी तक ओकर बिआह न होयल हलऽ । ओही जंगल में एगो सिआरिन रहऽ हल, जे पढ़ल-लिखल मरद खोजइत हल । एक दिन खोजइत खोजइत ओही सियार के बारे में पता लगल तो ओकरा से सिअरिनियाँ के बिआह हो गेल । सिअरनियाँ बन्डा से कहलक कि अब तोर सादी तो होइए गेल, अब हमरा अप्पन घरे ले चलऽ। सिआर जंगल में ओकरा तीन-चार महीना तक घुमाबइत रह गेल । ओकरा घर तो हल न ।

तब तक सिअरनियाँ के टू-चार गो बाल-बच्चा हो गेल । एक दिन फिनो सिअरनियाँ पूछलक कि अब केतना दूर घर हवऽ । तो सिअरा एगो बाघ के माँद में ले जा के घुसा देलक । सिअरनियाँ कहलकई कि ई तो बाघ के घर हउ । काहे से कि बाघाइन मँहकइत हउ । सिअरा कहलक कि कहिनो-कहिनो बाघ मार के लाबऽ हिलई ।

एतने में बघवा आ गेल । सिअरा तो होसिआर हल । कहलक कि बघवा आ गेलउ । सिअरनियाँ कहकई कि तू बड़ा पंडित हऽ अब बचे के उपाय कर । सिअरा कहलक क़ि उपाय कर न तो हम भगलिअउ । सिअरनियाँ कहलक कि हम बताव हिवऽ । से कहलक कि हम लइकवन के रोवावइत हिवऽ । तू पूछीहँऽ कि काहे ला लइकन के रोवइत हे? तब हम कहबउ कि बाघ के माँस ला रोवइत हइ। तऽ हम कहबउ कि उका बाघ आवइत हे। चूप रह न तो भाग जतउ । यही तरी दूनो बाघ सुन के भागल जाइत हथ कि फिनो ओकरा एगो दोसर सिआर मिलल ।

ऊ कहलक कि ए बघवा मामू । काहाँ भागल जाइत हे? चल, चल, ऊ हमरे जात हउ । त सिअरवा कहकई कि हमरा विसवास न हउ । चल, हम ले चलऽ हिलऊ । बघवा कहलकई कि हमरा में तू अप्पन पिछला गोड़ बाँध ले । दूनों के बाँधले गोड़ सियरवा आगे-आगे चलल आउ माँद भीर पहुँचल तो बन्डा मेहरुआ से कहलक कि अब जान न बचतउ । ओकरा सिअरे लेले आवइत हउ ।

तऽ सिअरनियाँ कहलक कि तूं का तो बड़ा बुधगर पंडित हऽ । कुछ बुध लगावऽ तऽ सिअरा कहलक कि हम्मर सब बुध गूम भेल हउ । सिअरनियाँ कहलक कि हम लइकवन के रोवाव हिलउ । तऽ जोर से तू कहिँहँऽ कि काहे ला रोवावइत हैं? तो हम कहवउ कि एखनी बाघ के मांस ला हम्मर देह नोचइत हे । तू सिअरवा से कहिँहँ कि अरे तोरा पाँच बाघ के बेआना देलिअउ हलऽ आउ एक्के गो के पकड़ले आवइत हें? तू बड़ी बेइमान आउ बतछोडू बुझाइत हैं ।

एतना कहके लड़कवन के रोववलक आउ सिआर डाँट के ओइसहीं कहलक । ये ही बात सुनके बघवा परान छोड़ के भागल आउ सिअरा घिसटाइत-घिसटाइत ओकर गोड़ में बँधल चलल । ओकर माथा-कपार चूरा गेल आउ अंत में ऊ मर गेल । खिस्सा खतम, पैसा हजम !
