एगो अगरवाल हल। ओकरा एगो लड़का हल । बाप के मरला पर लड़कावा तीन पइसा के नोकरी करे लगल । दू पाई में ओकर मतारी सब खर्चा चलावे आउ एक पाई बचावे। एक दिन अगरवलवा माय से कहलक कि कुछ पइसा दऽ तो नोकरी करे जाईं। माय ओकरा एगो रोपेआ देलक। बेटा नोकरी न करके दोकान कर लेलक । एक रोपेआ में हरदी धनिया-चतपतई लान के बेचे लगल । जब ओकर दोकान चल गेल तो ऊ बाहर से समान लान के बेचे लगल ।
एक तुरी बाहर जाइत खानी एगो बुढ़िया के तीन लड़की पर तीन चिरु पानी उबिछइत देखलक। ऊ कभी हँसे, कभी रोवे, कभी गीत गावे । ऊ चुपचाप देखलक आउ फिन पूछलक कि तू का करइत हें । बुढ़िया कहलक कि तोर काम हवऽ से तू करऽ, हमर काम जेहे से हम करइत ही । अगरवाल के बेटा कहलक कि जब तक न बतयबे तब तक हम इहाँ से न जबउ । बुढ़िया कहलक कि हम 'भावी' ( One who knows future ) ही। फिन लकड़हरवा पूछलक कि हमर सादी होयल हे कि ना ? बुढ़िया कहलक कि ना, बाकि आज रात के हो जतवऽ । एकरा पर खिसिया के अगरवलवा के बेटा ओकरा तीन लाती मारलक तो बुढ़िया कहलक कि मार चाहे कुछ करऽ बाकि आज रात के तोर सादी जरूर हो जतवऽ । फिन ऊ सर-समान लेके चलल तो रस्ते में रात हो गेल । ऊ एगो पीपर के खोड़रा में लुका गेल।
आधा रात में ओहिजा चार गो औरत अयलन आउ पेड़ पर चढ़ के ओकरा उड़ा चललन। समुन्दर पार एगो बस्ती में ले जा के पेड़ के खड़ा कर देलन । चारो उतर के चल देलन तो पाछे-पीछे अगरवलवो चललन । उहाँ के राजा हीं बराती आयल हल। ओहनी चारो तहईं चल गेलन आउ अगरवाल के बेटा एगो टिल्हा पर बइठ के तमाशा देखे लगल । बराती के लइका कॉन हल । से बरतिया ओलन अगरवाल के बेटा के सुन्दर देख के पूछलन कि तनी दरवाजा लगा दऽ बाबू । जे दान-दहेज मिलतवऽ से तोरे दे देबवऽ । ऊ दरवाजा लगा देलक । धुआँ-पानी भी हो गेल । फिन लइकवा जाय लगल तो बराती के वर के बाप कहलन कि तनी सादियो कर दऽ । सादी भी एकरे साथ भे गेल।
अगरवाल के बेटा कोहवर में गेल तो ओकरा भूख लगल । ऊ रानी से कहलक कि हमरा खाय ला दऽ । रानी बोलल कि हम ई घड़ी खाय के कहाँ से इंतजाम करीं । लड़का कहलक कि कइसहूँ करऽ । फिन राजकुमारी छत के ऊपर झाँक के चूल्हा बना देलक, कंगना ऊपर बइठा देलक। ओहिजे से घीउ लेके अदहन दे देलक । चीनी ओकरे में डाल देलक । सादी के बचल अच्छत ओकरा में डाल देलक । खीर बन गेल आउ राजा के खाय ला दे देलक । जे खीर बचल से रानी खा गेलन । रानी के नीन पड़ गेल। रात थोड़े बचल हल तऽ राजा रानी के अँचरा पर लिख देलक - लड़की लड़का के खोज करत । सादी करके बढ़िया जाइत हे, बाकि गवना करे कान लड़का आवत । जे सादी कर के जाइत हे, ओकर मकान समुंदर पार लालगंज हे। नीन टूटला पर रानी अँचरा पर लिखल पढ़लक आउ काट के हिफाजत से बक्सा में रख देलक।
फिनो बिहान होवे के पहिल ही अगरवाल के बेटा पीपर के खोड़रा में आके लुका गेल। एने बराती में हल्ला कर देल गेल कि लड़का घरे भाग गेल। एकरा बाद चारो गीतहारिन ऊ पीपर पर आन के चढ़ गेल आउ जहाँ से लौलक हल तहईं उड़ा के ले जाके छोड़ देलक । चारो उतर के चल गेलन आउ बिहान भेला पर लइकवो अप्पन मोटरी-गठरी के साथे घरे चल आयल । मन में सोचे कि जे देखत ऊ हमरा पर हँसत कि दू पइसा कमा हे आउ अइसन पोसाक पेन्हले हे। इहे भेस में 'भावी' बुढ़िया भीर चलल । जा के परनाम कैलक आउ कहलक कि तू सच्चा 'भावी' हें । एकरा बाद घरे आन के माय के परनाम कैलक । मइया पूछकई कि एतना पोसाक तू कहाँ से लवले हें? तब ऊ कहलक कि राते हम सादी कयली हे। गवना करा के लबउ तो देखिहें । दिन भर रोजगार में लग गेल।
पहिलका राजा आगरोपुर के राजा ही चिट्ठी लिखलन कि हमर लइका के मतवाही से एगो आँख मरा गेल हे । हमनी तकलीफ में ही। ई से रोसगदी ला अदमी जाइत हे। दिन धरा गेल। रोसगदी ला बरात आ गेल । तब लड़की अप्पन माय से कहलक कि जे सादी करके गेल हे, ऊ गवना करावे नऽ अवइत हे । अँचरा पर के लिखल बात अप्पन माय-बाप के देखा देलक। बाप कहकथिन कि ऊ लड़का जहाँ हे, उहाँ से खोज के ले आवऽ ।
लड़की बावनो गली तीरपन बजार के साथ ले लेलक । ई सब जादू के बजार हल। जहाज पर बइठ के समुन्दर पार गेल आउ लालगंज पहुँच के बावन गली तीरपन बजार बसा देलक । उहाँ सउँसे गाँव में अंगेया फेरा देलक कि सब अदमी अइहँऽ आउ सबहे के एक-एक रोपेआ दछिना भी मिलतवऽ । ऊ अगरवाल के बेटा नानी हीं हल । सात रोज के बाद जब ऊ आयल तब बावन गली तीरपन बजार में गेल। सबके खाना परसायल । रनिया रोज एगो कुर्सी रख दे हल कि जे 'भावी' के खिस्सा जाने हे, ऊ कुर्सी पर बइठ के कहे। सात दिन में कोई 'भावी' के खिस्सा न कहलक। सतवाँ दिन ओही अगरवलवा के लइका जाके कुर्सी पर बइठ गेल आउ 'भावी' के सब कथा कह सुनौलक । सब अदमी खा-खा के आउ इनाम ले के चल गेलन । रनिया जान गेल कि हमरा एकरें साथे सादी होयल हल। बहुत रुपेआ-पइसा देके अगरवाल के बेटा के कहलक कि जा के मकान बनवावऽ आउ फलना दिन के गवना करावे हमरा घरे आवऽ । एकरा बाद ऊ लड़की घरे चल गेल।
निश्चित दिन पर लड़का गवना करावे ला बरात लेके आगरोपुर पहुँचल । एने काना भी बर-बराती के साथे रोसगदी करावे ला रुकल हल। दूनो बराती झगड़े लगलन कि हम बिआह कैली हे । लड़की अप्पन बाप से कहलक कि दूनो बर के साथे इहाँ लिया आवऽ । बाप दूनो लड़का के अप्पन बेटी भिजुन लिया गेलन । लड़किया दूनो से पूछलक कि जे कोहबर में खयला हे से बता दऽ। काना तो खैलक न हल, से ऊ खाली दाल-भात बतौलक। एकरा बाद अगरवाल के बेटा कहलक कि कोहबर में हम खीर खैली हल आउ खाके थोड़ा छोड़ देली हल, जे रानी भी खा लेलन हल। सब कपड़ा जे उहाँ टंगल हल फाट गेल। अगरवाल के बेटा गवना करा के रानी के लेके चल गेल।
Once upon a time, there was a Agarwal family. They had a son who started working for a meager salary of 3 paise after the death of his father. His mother managed to run the household budget with two coins, saving one for themselves. One day, the Agarwal boy asked his mother for some money to get a job. His mother gave him one rupee. Instead of finding a job, he decided to start a shop. He bought turmeric, coriander, and other items with one rupee and sold them. Once his shop started running well, he began purchasing goods from outside to sell.
One day, while going out, the boy saw an old woman spreading water on her three daughters. They laughed, cried, and sang at times. He silently watched them and then asked what they were doing. The old woman replied that it was none of his business and he should manage his own work. The Agarwal boy insisted that he wouldn't leave until she told him. The old woman said that she was a 'bhavishya-wani' (someone who knows the future). The boy then asked whether he would get married or not. The old woman replied no, but that tonight he would surely get married. Annoyed, the Agarwal boy hit her three times with a stick. But the old woman reiterated that whether he hit her or not, he would definitely get married that night. After that, he took his belongings and, while walking, it became night. He hid inside a Peepal tree.
In the middle of the night, four women came and climbed the tree to take him away. They transported him across the sea and placed him in a town. When they all got down, the Agarwal boy followed them. The king of the place was expecting the guests. The four women settled down there, while the Agarwal boy sat on a mound to watch. A young guest looked at him and, seeing his good looks, asked him to close the door, saying they would give him whatever dowry was to be had. He closed the door, and smoke and water (food) began to appear. The groom's father then told the boy to get married, and the marriage took place accordingly.
The Agarwal boy entered the bridal chamber, and he felt hungry. He asked the princess for something to eat. She replied that she didn't have anything to prepare for food at that moment. The boy insisted that she find a way. So, the princess looked up to the roof and set up a fireplace, placing the cooking pot on the top. She fetched ghee and gave it to him. She even put sugar in it, along with some leftover sweets from the wedding. The kheer (a sweet dish) was prepared and presented to the king. The leftovers were consumed by the princess. The princess then fell asleep. Before the night ended, the king wrote on her dupatta (the princess's scarf): "The girl is searching for a boy. The marriage will happen beautifully, but the groom coming for the wedding will arrive for the gauna (post-marriage ritual). The house of the boy who will marry is located across the sea in Lalganj." Upon waking up, the princess read the writing and saved it carefully in a box.
Then, before the morning arrived, the Agarwal boy hid again in the Peepal tree. Meanwhile, there was a commotion among the guests that the boy had run away. After this, the four women brought him down from the tree and whisked him away to where they had taken him from. They all got down, and by morning, the boy returned home with his belongings. He thought to himself that those who saw him would laugh at him for earning a few coins while wearing such a peculiar outfit. The same elderly woman, bhavishya-wani, was also walking the same route, approached him, and said he was a true 'bhavishya-wani.' After this, the boy returned home and greeted his mother. His mother asked where he had gotten such attire. He replied that he had gotten married last night. He would bring the groom home after the gauna. He then spent the whole day working.
On the appointed day, the boy arrived at Agarwalpur for the gauna ceremony with a wedding procession. Here, the old man was also waiting to serve the guests. Both the guests started arguing about who had married first. The girl said to her father that he should bring both the boys here. The father sent both boys to their daughter. The girl then asked both of them to tell her what they had eaten in the bridal chamber. One boy replied that he hadn't eaten anything, so he only mentioned some lentils and rice. Then, the Agarwal boy said that he had eaten kheer and had left some for the princess, who also consumed it.
All the clothes that were there were torn. The Agarwal boy took the princess along after the gauna ceremony.
